Who Can Apply for Partner Visa?

✅ Partner Requirements:

Be the spouse of an Australian citizen/PR holder
Be in a genuine de facto relationship (same-sex or opposite-sex)
Proof of relationship: marriage certificate or de facto evidence (12+ months together)
English language: IELTS 4.5+ or equivalent (lower than most visas)
Health & character: Medical exam, police clearance required
No age restrictions

✅ Sponsor Requirements:

Australian citizen, PR holder, or eligible new Zealand citizen
Financial capacity to support partner (usually AUD $20K+)
No criminal or civil liability issues

VISA PATHWAY

Stage 1 (Temporary) → Stage 2 (Permanent)

📍 Stage 1: Temporary Partner Visa (subclass 820)

Duration: 2 years
Work: Unrestricted from grant
Processing: 12–24 months (can be lengthy)
Requirements: Meet health, character, and financial requirements

✅ Stage 2: Permanent Partner Visa (subclass 801)

Eligibility: After 2 years on Stage 1 visa
Requirement: Relationship still genuine, health/character clearance
Outcome: Permanent Residency — live, work, study in Australia indefinitely
Path to Citizenship: Eligible after 4 years PR (total 6 years on partner visas)
